Commission for Regulating Plantations is established in London.
May 31, 1633
(May) [/28/1634] Appointed by Charles I and headed by Bishop Laud, its purpose is purportedly to examine the conflict over the charters granted to the Council for New England and the Massachusetts Bay Company. Created after the court receives complaints that the Massachusetts Bay Company is operating too independently, the commission demands that, “the patent to be sent home by the first ship” in June 1634. The order is ignored in Boston, as are similar demands in May 1635 and May 1637. Demands for the charter continue until the English Civil War breaks out in 1642 and are not resumed until 1664.*
